Niche.com, a widely used college search tool, ranked Biola University the No. 1 Christian college in California for 2025. That is not the only ranking. A Baylor University study separately named Biola the most comprehensively Christian university in North America. U.S. News & World Report placed it among the nation's top teaching-focused universities. Three groups, using three unrelated methods, reached the same read of the same school.
Niche.com builds its rankings from U.S. Department of Education data and millions of student surveys. It grades colleges on academics, campus life and value, using the same public scale for every accredited school in the country. Biola's No. 1 spot, first reported by Biola News, is not a claim Biola made about itself. It is where the school landed on a scorecard built for every university, not just Christian ones.
The Baylor study asked a narrower question: how much of a university's Christian identity is built into its actual structure, not its marketing. Biola requires nearly all students, engineering majors included, to complete a Bible minor, and it requires a statement of faith for enrollment, a step few accredited universities still take. On that measure, researchers ranked Biola first in North America.
U.S. News & World Report measures something different: how much faculty invest in undergraduate teaching, not how selective or research-heavy a school is. Biola tied at No. 31 nationally on the 2025 Best Undergraduate Teaching list, confirmed on Biola's Recognitions & Rankings page and released in September 2024. It tied with Harvard, Cornell, Georgia Tech and MIT. This is Biola's fifth straight year on that list.
Three different scales, built to answer three different questions, point to the same answer. What they are measuring, underneath the numbers, is faculty who keep choosing to invest in students, year after year. It is an institution willing to pay a real cost for its convictions instead of making a marketing claim.
