Biola QCC

The Quantitative Consulting Center

The Quantitiative Consulting Center takes on real statistical consulting projects for organizations that need answers, not homework.

Biola SEI 2026 Water Desalinization

A Distillation Upgrade for Communities Without Clean Water

Three engineering students in Biola University's Summer Engineering Internship (SEI) upgraded a solar distillation unit for Life Giving Water International, a Christian NGO serving brackish-well communities in La Guajira, Colombia. Switching to copper condenser pipes alone improved condensation by 550%.

Biola Students Solved Lawrence Livermore's Particle Size Problem

Four Biola University math students attended security-protocol calls with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scientists and built the statistical models that identified which manufacturing variables control TATB particle size.

Jason Wilson on Statistics and Faith

A Biola mathematician published Statistics and Faith through IVP Academic in May 2026. Wilson also directs the Quantitative Consulting Center.

Shape the Frontiers

A Silicon Valley entrepreneur made the largest gift in Biola's history on a simple conviction: the world needs technologists who know what their work is for. Philanthropic support goes directly to research programs, facilities, and fellowships. Our aim isn't to chase the frontier. It's to define it.

Questions

What People Ask First

Biola.io is the innovation platform for Biola University's School of Science, Technology and Health. Think of it as a living record of what's being researched, engineered, and made by students, faculty, and collaborators in La Mirada, California. The research, the partnerships, the student breakthroughs, the ideas that don't fit in a course catalog. If you want admissions deadlines and program requirements, that's biola.edu. If you want to see what's actually being built here, you're in the right place.

Biola.edu is the institutional record: 118 years of programs, policies, and everything you need to actually enroll. Biola.io is the reason you'd want to. It's the part of the university that's looking forward: research collaborations, industry partnerships, frontier outcomes, and the ideas that are still being figured out.

It's the question we keep asking ourselves. Not just: can our students build it? But: should they? And do they know the difference? The conviction that technical work carries moral weight isn't a program requirement at Biola. It's the starting assumption. A lot of institutions produce excellent engineers. Fewer produce engineers who have spent serious time thinking about what excellence is actually for.

The Biola Engineering Garage is a 6,000+ square foot space on the La Mirada campus where students build things. Real things. The kind of hands-on, iterative, collaborative work that you can't do in a lecture hall. Phase 1 opened in 2025, funded by the largest gift in Biola University's history: more than $40 million from an anonymous Silicon Valley executive who wanted to invest in leaders guided by wisdom, not just capability.

Partnership takes several forms: research collaboration with faculty and student teams, sponsored projects, internship and hiring pipelines, and lab sponsorships. Most partnerships begin with a conversation about a specific problem or need.

Biola University has been here since 1908. It's accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and a member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. In 2025, a Silicon Valley executive donated more than $40 million to advance the university's work in technology and engineering. It was the largest gift in Biola's history. The donor's framing was precise: leaders who understand innovation, guided by wisdom, humility, and conviction. Biola.io is what that investment looks like in practice.

No. The platform spans computer science, engineering, biology, pre-med, nursing, and health science, including human flourishing, neuroscience of meaning, and the empirical study of wellbeing. The common thread: technical rigor alongside questions that matter beyond the lab.

La Mirada, California, 22 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The campus sits inside the OC/LA tech, health science, and biotech corridor, with proximity to major research hospitals, technology companies, and life science firms throughout Orange County and the greater Los Angeles basin.
